The place for me that provides my biggest sense of calm, relaxation, comfort and inspiration is…the bathtub. Yes, the bathtub.

For me, the bath is a distraction free zone, where I can fully immerse myself in reading, relaxing and rejuvenating. The quiet downtime enables me to fully access my creativity and deepest ‘right brain’ thinking, without the distractions brought on by technology, snippets of conversations or ambient noise that can take you out of this moment.

The bath offers a nice contrast to how I spend most of my day – on the computer. The bath for me is a ‘no-screen zone – where I can get back to the analog basics, reading newspapers and magazines to get caught up on content and culture trends from around the world. I find that when I open up my mind to these sources of new content, new ideas emerge that might otherwise lay outside of my more rigorous focus on specific project work. I am often able to bring this thinking into my daily work and inspire new ways of looking at my projects.

My advice is to give yourself a good hour of time for your screen free bath time. Yes, an hour! Bring some music, a little snack and let your mind explore new possibilities. And it sounds like I’m not the only one, check out this Guardian article for more bath benefits.
